
The electric vehicle market in China is booming and Groupe Renault is participating in it by creating JMEV in 2015: a joint venture with Chinese manufacturer JMC (Jiangling Motors Corporation). As a result of this collaboration, several products were born, the latest of which is Little Kirin100% electric micro-city car based on Renault Kwid / Dacia Spring.
The Chinese-made JMC Little Kirin, also called EV2 (or Xiaoqilin) in JMEV, measures only The length is 3.5 meters, 1.65 meters wide and 1.46 meters high. It features an elegant design with compact front lights joined together by a gloss black element that houses the charging hatch. There are several air intakes at the bottom of the front fender and even a stylish surf boot in SUV fashion.
JMC Little Kirin: compact and modern look
At the sides, there are compact lines, as well as 14-inch aluminum wheels with four double spokes, and stylish ribs begin at the top of the doors. At the rear, the glazed tailgate is flanked by twin taillights reminiscent of those on the Nissan Micra IV.
Inside, the cabin has a fairly simple style and enough space to accommodate up to 4 passengers: it nevertheless highlights several technologies such as its 7-inch touch screen placed in the center of the dashboard or even a digital instrument panel. The Chinese company claims at least 14 storage places on board.
Several color accents emphasize the atmosphere of the cabin: they can be found on the door handles, the steering wheel, the outline of the touch screen and air vents, as well as on the seat upholstery. In the standard configuration, Little Kirin is equipped with front airbags, air conditioning, USB ports, two speakers and even rear parking sensors.
Power reserve up to 201 km
A is hiding under the hood 35 horsepower electric motor (26 kW) and 84 Nm of torque, which allows you to accelerate the car to a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Performance is not reported, but the car weighs only 930 kg. This motor is connected to an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery by capacity 15.86 kWhwhich offers a rather modest range of 175 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle, and up to 201 km in real life according to the Chinese manufacturer: this Little Kirin is definitely for the city.
Pre-orders for the Little Kirin are now open in China, priced between RMB 49,900 and RMB 58,900, equivalent toapproximately from 6300 to 7400 euros. The first deliveries are expected in November 2023 in the Celestial Empire.
There is little chance that this model will reach the European market, but never say never: the Renault Kwid that landed as the Dacia Spring in our regions was a model originally reserved for the developing markets of Asia, South America and Africa!
