
Franco-Italian manufacturer Stellantis announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Korean battery giant Samsung SDIfor the construction of a the second gigafactory is set to produce batteries for electric vehicles in the US, which will be inaugurated in 2027.
“This new plant will help us achieve our ambitious goal of bringing at least 25 new electric vehicles to the North American market by the end of the decade.”said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis: “We continue to increase our manufacturing capacity in the United States in collaboration with our partner Samsung SDI, and we are setting the next milestones to achieve our commitment to carbon neutrality by 2038.”
Stellantis: the second battery factory
Last year, Stellantis and Samsung SDI invested more than $2.5 billion in them StarPlus Energy joint venture, with the construction of the first battery manufacturing plant in Kokomo, Indiana, USA. This plant should be completed in the first quarter 2025 yearwith annual production capacity 33 GWh.

Now, Stellantis and Samsung SDI have just announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to build a second battery manufacturing facility in the United States, with production slated to begin in 2027 year : this will have an initial annual production capacity 34 GWh.
Stellantis: 100% electric cars by 2030
This project is part of the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which aims to sell passenger cars. 100% electric cars in Europeand 50% of electric cars and pickup trucks in the United States 2030 year. To achieve this goal, the automotive group must obtain about 400 GWh of available battery capacity.
This long-term electrification strategy will enable Stellantis to achieve carbon neutral by 2038.
Stellantis has yet to say where this new facility will be located in the United States: indeed, the location is currently being studied and more information will be revealed at a later date.
