The Jaguar XKSS is a sports car that was produced in just 16 units in 1957. It was a road-legal version of the Type D that competed in endurance races at the time, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Out of 16 copies, there would only be 7, and one of them will be offered at RM Sotheby’s next auction scheduled for August during Monterey Car Week. It could become the most expensive British car of all time, p approximately 12 million euros.

Rarity creates price

Jaguar XKSS is, as expected, one of the rarest models of the British manufacturer. Originally, 25 examples were planned to be produced, but several models were destroyed in a factory fire in 1957. and today only seven are known to be in circulation.

In 2016, the brand announced that it would resume small-scale production to reach the then-planned production of 25 units. Apparently, these models were sold like hotcakes. The model for sale was saved from the fire and had the right to a fairly thorough care, and its mechanics are in perfect working order.

One of the most beautiful jaguars on the road

The car was ordered new in California in 1957 by driver Lou Brero Sr., who unfortunately died in a tragic car accident before the car was picked up. A few weeks later, it was acquired by British dealer Sammy Weiss, owner of Oxford Motors in Sacramento, California, who sold it in 1960 to entrepreneur Sidney Kohlberg, who lived near San Francisco.

Over time, the car had several owners, starting with Anthony Bamford, a British billionaire, and Campbell McLaren, the founder of the American UFC. The engine block, gearbox, rear axle and body are original and match the serial numbers.
