When you own a car, you have to insure it. In fact, it is even mandatory, and failure to do so exposes you to very serious penalties. Not to mention the risks in the event of an accident, whether you are the victim or cause it. And for good reason, if you hit someone while your car wasn’t protected, you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket for all medical expenses in case of injury and hospitalization. Not to mention the legal ramifications, which are also very daunting. Nonetheless, over 800,000 drivers will circulate without insurance at this time. A real scourge that the government wants to fight.

Smart idea
But there is another problem, more typical for those who rent a car. Is this covered? Theoretically yes. But you may need additional guarantees or simply want to prevent the person who borrowed it from collecting your bonus in the event of an accident. For this, a young startup founded in 2022 had an idea: offer daily insurance, for only five euros. This is Cartage, which promises to reimburse up to 3,000 euros in the event of a claim. Be careful though, as this is actually more of an extended warranty than true insurance per se.
How does it work?
And good news for those who don’t like paperwork, the procedures are very simple. The car owner has absolutely nothing to do. Indeed, it is the person who borrowed the vehicle who must take steps by visiting the company’s website. In a few clicks and after answering a few short questions, the car is insured at the end of the procedure. The warranties are then the same as those provided by the original driver. Reserve anyway for a fairly short period of time so as not to inflate the price!
