
Who does not know Ford Fiesta ? The versatile American city car, first introduced in 1976, is one of the most important models on the European market: since then it has been produced in no less than 7 generations, a total of more than 22 million copies went all over the world.
Today, the last example of the Ford Fiesta was produced this Friday, July 7, 2023, at the German plant of the American manufacturer located in Cologne (Nile): it will join the “Ford Heritage” collection to be preserved as the last copy of the Fiesta in history. So, after a 47-year career, Fiesta is leaving the market.
Ford Fiesta: farewell to SUV profits
Launched in 1976, the Ford Fiesta was Ford’s solution to the oil crisis: a smaller, more economical model that quickly became popular around the world, especially in Europe. It has many competitors in the market, such as Peugeot 208, Renault Clio, Citroën C3, Opel Corsa and Volkswagen Polo. The latter will also suffer the same fate, soon to be replaced by the new 100% electric ID.2.
Today, this is another shock that signed the death sentence of the Ford Fiesta: the appearance of electric cars and customer interest in SUVsmore and more voluminous.

Ford: changing direction
Although previously produced in Spain, at the Valencia plant, the Ford Fiesta was now only produced at the Cologne (Nile) plant: Ford now decided to reorganize their industrial activitiesand therefore to free up space at its production site in Germany to focus on the production of electric vehicles.
Indeed, the Ford plant in Cologne has undergone a technical transformation to transform it into the “Ford Electric Vehicle Center”. Now it’s ready to produce the Ford Explorer EV, itself the result of the American manufacturer’s partnership with Volkswagen: it’s now based on the 100% electric MEB platform of its Volkswagen ID.4 counterpart. Therefore, the establishment in Germany acquires full importance.
