Usually, restyling of a car takes place in the middle of its operation, that is, about three and a half years after the beginning of its life. However, at Tesla, the life cycle of cars is not the same as that of “traditional” manufacturersproof of this is the S model, which has been on the market for almost 11 years and still remains among the references thanks to regular updates.
For the Model 3, Tesla is moving toward the same scheme, but it obviously involves a deftly mastered pencil stroke to keep the car from looking dated after seven or eight years of marketing. The Tesla Model S has seen almost no cosmetic changes for a decade, but for its part, Model 3 should get more changes.
Tesla Model 3 face lift: aesthetic changes
Indeed, according to the first photo from China taken a few weeks ago, which appears to show the facelifted Model 3, the front end will change quite widely, with sharper optics that seem to have been inspired by the upcoming Tesla Roadster.
Photos of the rear haven’t leaked yet, but it shouldn’t necessarily change much from the model we know now.
I just got my crystal ball out and it’s official:

It is under the hood that there should be changes. The new Tesla Model 3, also known as the “Model 3 Highland”, may introduce some interesting innovations at the battery level.
New batteries in the program?
According to the latest information from China and covered by CnEVPost journalists, the next Tesla Model 3 RWD will be equipped with a new battery. This version should be equipped with CATL’s M3P lithium-ion battery. Remember that CATL already supplies LFP batteries for some versions of the Model 3 and Model Y.
The capacity of this new battery is expected to be around 66 kWh, which is 6 kWh more than the current version and 11 kWh more than the very first Model 3 Propulsion. This additional 6 kWh can increase the range from 491 km according to the WLTP cycle a little less than 550 km.
In addition, the new CATL M3P batteries could also be used for the updated Tesla Model Y (codenamed Juniper), which is expected in 2024. According to the first rumors, a 72 kWh battery will be planned for the American SUV.
But when will that famous, long-awaited Tesla Model 3 Highland arrive? According to several sources, it was supposed to be unveiled a few weeks ago during Elon Musk’s visit to the Gigafactory in Shanghai. Tesla would revise its calendar and it could finally be unveiled during the summer to start marketing in September 2023.
