Launched March 30, adventure “Pole to Pole” was conceived by Nissan to get people talking about the Ariya e-4orce, its new 100% electric SUV.
The goal is to make it drive more than 27,000 km for 10 months: it was Chris and Julie Ramsey who embarked on this expedition that will take them through North, Central and South America to reach the most remote place in the world, the South Pole, at the end of the year.
Nissan Ariya: an unprecedented expedition
This unprecedented expedition started from the North Magnetic Pole in March 2023: two extreme adventurers from the Pole to Pole team crossed Nissan Ariya e-4orce icy wind, boulder fields and deep snow, and met several polar bears along the way.
This feat showcases the efficiency and benefits of Nissan’s e-4orce system with several settings such as reduced pressure in specially modified tires that allow the vehicle to cut through deep snow and ice. The e-4ORCE system has greatly helped Chris and Julie in overcoming the slippery and difficult terrain of the Arctic, providing more control and maneuverability.
Then the crew went to the area of the village Cambridge Bay, a hunting and fishing spot known for its northern lights. Despite heavy snowfall and a the outside air temperature is -39°C, Aria accomplished her mission. Chris and Julie stopped to pump up their vehicle’s tires and visit the elders of the historic village of Cambridge Bay. An opportunity to share the mission and ethics of this expedition to promote sustainable development and electrification of vehicles.
Nissan Ariya: on its way to Canada and the US
Chris and Julie then headed to the Yellowknife, with an ice test: cross the crossing point before it becomes impossible due to melting ice. Thanks to the All-Wheel Control technology, Ariya has proven its controllability in such extreme conditions, providing reliable grip and smoothness of the ride.
Now in the Northwest Territories of Canada, Chris and Julie have reached the “crossroads of the North” with the long-awaited arrival on the tarmac: a huge relief. On these much softer roads, the two crew members were able to enjoy the ride and relax. Then they stopped at Hay Riverto refuel before continuing the journey to Edmonton. The crew will then sail to the United States to meet the next stages!
