The next-generation BMW M5 is still under development, but it has just entered an advanced stage as it is currently being tested on open public roads and race tracks around the world.
The Bavarian manufacturer has just confirmed that the new generation BMW M5 will also be available in a wagon variant called the BMW M5 Touring. It will offer additional capacity while maintaining the sporty character of the most powerful BMW 5 Series.
BMW M5 Touring: hybrid engine
Like the BMW M5 sedan, the future Touring variant will be equipped with a new generation hybrid engine: “We are now installing the typical M-performance hybrid system in other high-performance cars”says Dirk Hecker, Head of BMW M Development.
For nearly 40 years, the BMW M5 has been a staple in the performance sedan segment with its six-, eight- and ten-cylinder engines, M Carbon ceramic brakes and M xDrive all-wheel drive.
The seventh generation of the BMW M5 will continue this momentum with innovations already announced by BMW “Exciting, for an even more intense performance experience”.
BMW M5 Touring: the story continues
The first BMW M5 Touring was released in 1992 year, as a variation of the second-generation BMW M5 sedan, then the model was updated in 2007 with the fourth-generation BMW M5 Touring variant. Today, the German firm continues the success of the BMW M3 Touring Competition and will abandon this recipe for the next generation of the BMW M5.
Prototype tests of the future BMW M5 Touring will be conducted, in particular, in urban conditions, as well as on secondary roads and motorways around Munich, Germany, as well as at the BMW M headquarters in Garching. The model will then take to tracks around the world, including the North Lane of the Nürburgring, allowing fine-tuning of its sporty parameters while maintaining the driving comfort that allows you to cover long distances in everyday life.
The future BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring will hit the market during2024 year.
