That’s it, summer has come! From the solstice on June 21, we descend to sunny days, heat…and holidays Of course! If this summer you chose a motorhome tripwith family or friends, here are some tips for prepare efficiently and calmly great start To leave with a safe car in top shape. Here are all the bridges to look out for on D-Day:

Engine and mechanics

  • check the oil level
  • Check the coolant level.
  • Check battery condition and clean/wipe dust from terminals and terminals as needed.
  • Check the condition of the brake pads or discs
  • Check the tires: their possible wear, as well as the pressure

Electricity and lighting

  • Check the operation of all exterior lights, including hazard lights, brake lights, turn signals and headlights.
  • Check electrical systems inside the cabin, particularly in kitchenettes, bathrooms or lounge/sleeping areas
  • Also check electrical outlets

gas

  • Make sure gas cylinders are full and in good condition.
  • Check the gas connections for leaks (re-screw the pipes, check the condition of the valves and pipes).
  • Check gas-powered appliances, such as the refrigerator, stove, and heater.

water supply system

  • Check the fresh water and waste water tanks to make sure they are clean and in good condition.
  • Check hoses and fittings for leaks.
  • Make sure the water pump is working properly.

Aboard

  • Check the fuel level
  • Check safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and smoke detectors (replace batteries if necessary)
  • Check the ventilation and air conditioning systems, a good dusting will not hurt after prolonged immobilization.
  • Check also and of course the household appliances, toilet, shower to make sure they are working properly.
  • Make sure you have the usual safety gear, such as a warning triangle, reflective vest, jack and spare tire.

From the outside

  • Thoroughly clean the body, giving preference to the windows, mirrors and (if available) solar panels.
  • Check the exterior of the vehicle for any damage or signs of leaks.

This list is quite large and comprehensive, all these checkpoints do not necessarily apply to you, especially if it is not a motor home, but a rented car. Prevention is better than cure. Have a nice holiday, be careful (and patient) on the road!
