Mercedes: ChatGPT built into the MBUX system
To try, more than 900,000 cars of the brand have the right to a beta program optional that started on June 16, 2023 in the US. Customers who want to participate are invited to use the Mercedes Me app or directly from their car using a voice command “Hi Mercedes, I want to join the beta program”.
Mercedes integrates ChatGPT into its vehicles through Azure OpenAI Service, which uses the cloud and artificial intelligence platform Microsoft.
In addition to the classic voice commands of the MBUX system, ChatGPT will complement these existing capabilities of the “Hey Mercedes” command. The AI tool will improve its understanding of natural language and expand the topics it can respond to, allowing customers have natural conversations with your car.
ChatGPT at Mercedes: many possibilities
For example, users will be able to ask the Mercedes voice assistant for details of their destination, suggest a recipe or answer a difficult question, the answer capabilities are enhanced with artificial intelligence to offer more complete answers.
The German manufacturer clarifies that the personal data of its customers collected by the voice assistant is stored in its cloud, anonymized and analyzed. Mercedes protects its customers’ data from manipulation and abuse.
The beta testing program of ChatGPT on the Mercedes MBUX system will last for about 3 months in the United States: this will allow the brand developers to improve the functionality of the system before deploy the system in other regions of the world.
