We know that the road is not trivial and is still dangerous, no matter what we say. That is why it is very important not to drive a car under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and you should not use your phone while driving. In addition, it is important to make sure that your vehicle is properly maintained and in good condition, especially the brakes and tires. Because driving is still risky, as road safety data regularly reminds us. More precisely, the organization has just lifted the curtain on its balance sheet for the month of May. And good news, the results are slightly better than in previous months.

Fewer road deaths
According to the latest traffic safety data, it is 234 people died on the roads of France during the month of May. A figure that obviously remains high, but is still slightly down 19% from the same month the previous year. Then 289 people died on the roads. There is also little progress compared to March and April, with declines of 14% and 13% respectively. In addition, the National Interministerial Observatory of Road Traffic Safety (ONSIR) notes. “decrease in the number of deaths among motorized two-wheelers (-46%), cyclists (-9%) and pedestrians (-9 deaths)“. Very good news as the traffic was heavy.
And scooters?
On the other hand, users of electric scooters paid a high price this month of May. Indeed, deaths related to these devices increased by 23% with 33 deaths. Cyclists are also particularly vulnerable, as Road Safety points out that cyclist deaths are “ much higher than in 2019, when 214 cyclists died in the last 12 months, i.e. +14% compared to 2019“. In other words, there is still work to be done, particularly in terms of prevention and road safety infrastructure.
