Toyota has been interested in hydrogen for some time. And for good reason, the brand is already selling its Mirai, a fuel cell sedan that is one of the rare production models to offer the engine. This also applies to the Hyundai Nexo. And that’s all. Because at the moment, hydrogen is still difficult to develop. Several startups are trying to get off the ground, such as Hopium, which is forced to suspend the project due to lack of funding. Which does not seem to be the case for the Japanese firm, which continues to believe in this alternative, which is considered cleaner than thermal.

new model
Thus, according to rumors, the manufacturer will work on the development of a completely new model that runs on fuel cells. The latter would even be much more affordable than Mirai, as suggested by brand representatives. They explain that the price will be ” 50% lower than the current Mirai“. A positioning that will place this upcoming car at around €35,000. This will allow it to position itself against Tesla, which, however, currently only offers electric models.
What we know
So far, the manufacturer has not provided much information about this new product. But we know it will benefit from an entirely new generation of hydrogen engine that will enable it reduce its price. Autonomy will increase due to better efficiency. But at the moment, the technical details are still unknown. We do not yet know exactly when this model is expected to arrive in the range. But the manufacturer should not tell us more.
