With the summer holidays approaching, you will definitely be hitting the highway to get to your vacation destination. But to save on the car budget, you may be tempted to prefer the national roads, as the price on the motorways is quite daunting.
Really, duty rates continues to increase and burdens the French budget more and more. Some motorways are more expensive than others, but Ile-de-France is where we find itThe most expensive motorway in France.
Tolls: excessively high rate
Located to the west of the Paris regionA14 highway connects the town of Orgeval in Yvelines with the business district of La Défense in Haute-de-Seine. This motorway is in a strategic location, as it allows you to reach Paris in record time if you are coming from, for example, Normandy from the A13 motorway.
Although this road is very practical for people who want to get to the capital quickly, it is not very popular with motorists, having the privilege of traveling on these few the last 20 kilometers separating you from Paris, you must pay an exorbitant sum for duty.
According to the SAPN (Société des Autoroutes Paris-Normandie) tariff schedule, the Montesson tariff is 10 euros, or about 50 cents per kilometer of travel. This rate varies depending on the hours of the day because a reduced price of 6.40 euros applies if you arrive at the toll booth between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), i.e. approximately 32 centimes per kilometer.
Toll: Towards the disappearance of barriers on the A14
This highway is part of a project aimed at remove duties between Paris and Cannes, on the A13 and A14. Indeed, to streamline traffic and reduce congestion during busy weekends, this 210-kilometer axis of the highway will soon be converted into “free highway”.
In practice, this involves removing toll barriers and replacing them with a system of portals equipped with cameras that will record the license plate of each user. Work is already underway and a new device should be available commissioned in 2024.
But be careful, this does not mean that A14 and A13 will become free! Indeed, motorists will be able to pay the toll by credit card through the website or visit a terminal designated for this purpose at the end of their journey, but no later than 3 days after passing through.
