After a double-digit teaser image, Toyota has just lifted the curtain on its mysterious concept car, which is set to make its public debut in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Her name ? there Toyota Prius 24h Le Mans Centennial GR Editiona concept car that repeats the lines of the new Prius, with aesthetic attributes that are, to put it mildly, sporty.

All for looks?

At the front, we find a large splitter and two carbon fiber ribs on each side, while on the sides, the car is equipped with large black wheel arches and “GR” decals.

From the rear, the concept looks quite dramatic, with a large spoiler and diffuser that are very similar to the racing world. Also included in the kit are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with a size of 235/50 R18, which provides excellent dynamic characteristics.

Overall, Toyota says most of the modifications are inspired by the GR010 Hybrid, TGR’s WEC World Championship hypercar.

Planning a small series?

The manufacturer’s press release did not indicate whether any interventions were made to the plug-in hybrid powertrain. So it’s likely that this Prius will retain its 2.0-liter gasoline engine, linked to a 13.6 kWh battery with a total of 223 hp. An engine that is not really sporty, but which at least has the advantage of being particularly efficient, as evidenced by the data recorded by the WLTP cycle.

At first glance, this concept car will not have a future for the simple reason that the Prius does not necessarily lend itself to such exercises. Nevertheless, some rumors strongly indicate the release of a serial version of GRMN in the more or less near future. Even if the new Prius design generally inspires more dynamism than older generations, it’s hard for us to imagine a car known for its economy becoming truly sporty.

That said, Toyota has recently reaffirmed its ambitions for its GR range, and a low-production version of the Prius GRMN could deliver something that’s sure to be pretty amazing.
