Motor home: what equipment is required? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

The sunny days are back, and you will definitely go on a weekend or vacation aboard your loved one camping car. Like all other vehicles, motorhomes must be equipped with certain mandatory equipment to be able to move on the open roads of France.

Let’s summarize mandatory equipment motorhomes, as well as the fines you bear if you do not comply with the law.

Mobile home: necessary equipment

Just like in a car, on board your motor home is a must a protective vest fluorescent, as well as a warning triangle. The reflective vest (or yellow vest) must be kept near the driver, put on before exiting the vehicle, and must bear the “CE” marking, which certifies its approval in the European Union.

The safety triangle is important to warn other road users in case of danger: it must be located at least 30 meters from your car, for example if it breaks down and poses a danger on the road. On the other hand, if you think that this action could endanger your life, and this is especially true on the highway or, for example, at night, you can activate the hazard warning lights.

Motorhome equipment: what are the risks?

These two pieces of equipment are mandatory in any motorized land vehicle operating on French roads. If they are not on board, non-appearance may result in a fine of €38. If you don’t use them in case of danger, law enforcement can impose a fixed fine of €135 but up to €750.

Keep in mind that in different European countries the mandatory equipment may differ: for example, in Spain a spare tire is mandatory, but it is not everywhere. In other countries, other equipment may be required, such as a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, V16 flashlight or a box of spare bulbs. Find out before you leave to avoid unpleasant surprises.

As with other vehicles, there are other obligations regarding the equipment of a motorhome: for example, it must be equipped with high beam, dipped beam, front and rear position, rear fog lights, direction indicators, brake lights, hazard warning lights and a light rear license plate.

In addition, on the territories of massifs, which is concerned with Mountain lawbetween November 1st and March 31st, be sure to equip your vehicle with winter equipment, such as 3PMSF approved winter or all-season tires, chains or even snow socks.
