THE Volvo EX30 is a small 100% electric SUV, which is inferior to the XC40 in the lineup. While waiting for the official presentation, the Swedish firm continues to tease its new model and give us more information about its carbon footprint.
“Our new EX30 is a big step in the right direction that will allow us to meet our sustainability ambitions”said Anders Kerrberg, Global Head of Sustainability at Volvo Cars: “By 2025, we aim to reduce our global CO2 emissions per vehicle by 40% compared to 2018 levels through a 50% reduction in global tailpipe emissions and a 25% reduction in emissions from our operations, sourcing and supply chain – all to , to serve our ambition to make Volvo Cars a climate neutral company by 2040.”
Volvo EX30: Lots of recycled materials
The 100% electric Volvo EX30 does not emit exhaust gases, which contributes reduce your CO2 footprint but also to improve air quality. However, this is not enough to reduce a car’s overall carbon footprint: it also needs to deal with the various stages of design, development, production or transportation, stages that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
The Volvo EX30 displays a total carbon footprint is less than 30 tons more than 200,000 km, which is 25% less than the 100% electric Volvo C40 and XC40.
For this, the future Swedish electric SUV has been optimized in several ways: first of all, the model is smaller, which helps to use less potentially polluting raw materials such as steel and aluminum. Much of these materials used in the EX30 are also recycled: 25% of the aluminum or about 17% of the steel used in production.
Volvo EX30: on the way to climate neutrality
Inside, the Volvo EX30 also uses stronger materials : the number of parts has been reduced while optimizing various component functions, while around 17% of all plastic has been recycled, a feat never before achieved in a Volvo.
Volvo also uses pure energies to power its production chain, including 100% climate-neutral electricity. In addition, 95% of Volvo EX30 suppliers have committed to producing 100% renewable energy by 2025. Finally, the EX30 was designed to be 95% recycled and restored at the end of his life.
Volvo EX30 will be presented to the public on June 7, 2023, when orders for the model open in select European markets, including France. Volvo will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
