It’s certainly not the most important new product for Volkswagen this year, but the restyling presented by the German manufacturer is certainly welcome, in particular to allow it to be in the game technologically.
In the program, therefore, there are some clearly visible aesthetic changes, small changes in the catalog of equipment and the addition of several modern technologies.
Smooth evolution
In terms of aesthetics, we find the new HD Matrix IQ Light LED headlights (consisting of 19,000 micro-LEDs each) with three separate LED elements. Optics are one of the most important elements of this restyling, with lanterns capable of creating a kind of “luminous carpet” on the asphalt.called “Lane Light”, which provides optimal lighting at night.
Depending on the trim, the grille can be finished in chrome or gloss black, supported by enlarged lower air intakes compared to the outgoing model.
New 19-inch Coventry, 20-inch Braga, 21-inch Napoli and 21-inch Leeds wheels also appear. At the back, a thin strip of light crosses the entire trunk of the Touareg and highlights the Volkswagen logo in red. This is the first time this feature has been included in a Volkswagen model in Europe. Previously, the illuminated logo was only allowed in markets such as China and the US.
Also added is the Innovision Cockpit, which combines the Digital Cockpit and the Discover Pro Max infotainment system. The latter includes a navigation system and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and can be controlled with your fingertips or via physical controls on the center console. Volkswagen has also made some changes to the upholstery and materials inside.
Two hybrid versions for the French market
Volkswagen has worked a lot on the chassis, with some new features that should allow the Touareg to be like more comfortable, but also more dynamic. The roof is now equipped with a load sensor that detects the lateral forces acting on the vehicle, allowing the suspension settings to be adapted and thus improving stability, particularly during dynamic driving. The German SUV is still available with an active roll system, rear-wheel steering and four-wheel drive.
The new Volkswagen Touareg will be sold with five engines. In addition to the gasoline engine, two diesel units will be offered, as well as two plug-in hybrid versions. In France, only two plug-in hybrid engines will be sold. All engines come standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive.
Both PHEV versions will be developed 381 and 462 hp. The most powerful version is decorated with the R badge, intended for the most sporty Volkswagen models. It is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 unit connected to an electric unit.
As for the equipment, in France the new Touareg will be offered in the exclusive “Elegance” version. 86,300 euros. The range is completed by the top model Touareg R eHybrid, available from 102,200 euros.
