A few days ago, Renault announced the name of its future SUV-coupe based on the new Austral. This was the first time the Rafale name chosen for this newcomer to the catalog was announced. A name that was not chosen by chance, but which pays a beautiful tribute to the past of the manufacturer, who bought the Caudron company and produced an aircraft called the Rafale. Just like the one currently producing Dassault Aviation Company. And the latter doesn’t seem too happy that the diamond firm is using the name. So much so that a lawsuit was being considered.
Canceled promotion
Indeed, when presenting financial results, Laurent Dasso, grandson of Marcel Dasso asked if it was simply impossible to prohibit the manufacturer from using this name. But the boss of the company finally replied that it was impossible, because the diamond firm really had the rights to use the name. Therefore, the aircraft manufacturer has changed its mind and no longer foresees any legal action against Renault, so the company can operate as it wishes. Especially since there is no chance that the SUV will compete Dassault Rafalethe fighter is priced at several tens of millions of euros.
Agreement reached
Also, our colleagues at Caradisiac have received a response from Renault which claims it has mutual agreement with Dassault as part of using the Rafale name. In addition, the CEO of the French company wanted to calm the situation by reminding that the Caudron-Rafale of 1934, which will be exhibited at the next edition of the Paris Air Show, is ” beautiful plane“. This should ease the tension, even if the relationship between the two companies looks pretty good.
