Volvo and heating systems, we know, almost the end! The Swedish premium brand has indeed announced this a long time ago : by 2030, it will sell exclusively electric models. A decision that goes hand in hand with the desire of the European Union to ban thermal energy by 2035. The manufacturer has no problems with this issue.. In Europe, its entire range is electrified. All thermal models are available with 48 V micro-hybridization. In the battery hybrid category, this technology is also offered on several models. Starting with the XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs, as well as the S60 and S90 sedans. Volvo already has three electric models: the C40, XC40 and the all-new electric flagship EX90.. The latter (starting with “E” for electric) is the electric equivalent of the XC90.
A successful model for Volvo
The brand will soon launch two new electric models. The small compact crossover EX30 (twin of the Zeekr X) and the larger EX60. As you already understood, the latter will be a kind of electric XC60. Meanwhile, the XC60 as we know it quietly continues its career. Let’s not hide it too quickly, it’s more than that Volvo’s bestseller in Europe. Normal, it is positioned in the C segment, the biggest seller on the Old Continent. In combustion mode, it is offered only in diesel: Microhybrid B4 with a capacity of 197 horsepower. In fact, the success of the model is mainly due to its plug-in hybrid versions. 350 hp T6 AWD (50% of European sales in 2022) and 455 hp T8 AWD. Released in 2017, it received minor changes in 2021. Regarding new features, Now Volvo is releasing it in a limited edition called the Black Edition.
black is black
As its name suggests, this special XC60 is decked out in black throughout. On the body, wheels, gallery, door handles, window contours and even logos. It is based on the Ultimate trim, the plushest and most expensive of the range (except for the sporty Polestar Engineered version). Its standard equipment is actually complete, including intelligent adaptive cruise control, a Harman/Kardon audio system, a rearview camera, 100% LED headlights and a central 9-inch touchscreen. Of course, the atmosphere on board is also dark, on Nappa leather seats and dashboard, illuminated a few strokes of aluminum mesh. Scheduled for a arrival end of 2023will be the XC60 Black Edition available exclusively with the 350 horsepower T6 AWD hybrid powertrain. It will start from 81,630 euros, i.e. €1,400 more than in the Ultimate final.
