Future Volvo EX30 will be a small, 100% electric SUV, the smallest in Volvo’s lineup, which will be positioned below the XC40. Awaiting the official presentation, the Swedish firm announces its new model and shows a new photo in which we can discover one of its external mirrors, which has a rather refined “frameless” design.

As with the brand’s other models, this one has a blind spot warning, which is an opportunity for the Gothenburg-based manufacturer to tell us more about its security systemsan area where Volvo has been innovating for almost 100 years.

Volvo EX30: a real concentrate of safety

Despite its small size, the Volvo EX30 will indeed be a real safety focus, like other models of the brand, but designed for use in urban conditions. For example, to reduce the number of accidents involving cyclists in the city, the EX30 is equipped with a “Safe exit warning” when the door opens: visual and audible signals are emitted when the door is about to open, when the car detects a cyclist or other vehicle passing nearby.

This function is part of “Safe Space” technology.a set of advanced safety equipment that will be equipped with the future small electric SUV: “We have long been interested in safety in urban environments where cars share space with pedestrians and cyclists”– says Osa Haglund, head of the Volvo Safety Center: “With the Volvo EX30, we’re taking urban safety to the next level, creating a small SUV that’s the perfect companion for comfortable driving while looking after you and others on the busy streets of today’s cities. »

Volvo EX30 safety also helps to protect passengers inside the car in the event of an accident, structural design which meets Volvo requirements: strengthening of the roll cage, A-, B- and C-pillars and roof, as well as the use of high-strength steel for the chassis and roll cage, which allows protect the integrity of the battery during the collision. The model also has an optional front side airbag that deploys between the driver and front passenger seats to protect occupants in the event of a side impact.

Volvo EX30: full of technology

The EX30 will also feature the kit active safety and driver assistance systems : we will find there, for example, the Driver Alert System, which detects hands on the steering wheel, as well as eye and facial movements approximately 13 times per second. Thus, the car is able to detect distraction, drowsiness or reduced attention.

New feature automatic emergency braking at intersections also designed to prevent accidents in the city and to mitigate or avoid a collision when approaching an intersection.

Volvo EX30 will be presented to the public on June 7, 2023, when orders and pre-orders open for the model in select European markets. Volvo will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
