More and more cities are faced with parking problems. The lack of spaces, which sometimes forces residents to circle around their homes for tens of minutes before finding a parking space near their residence. It’s probably not the most pleasant way to come home after a day’s work, let’s face it. Traders also suffer. Tired of looking for a parking space, many buyers prefer to go to shopping centers and commercial areas located outside the citieswhere there are many parking spaces and, moreover, they are often free.
Since, each municipality has its own equipment increase the turnover of vehicles and free up the number of available parking spaces: paid parking, limited time through the parking disk, spaces for quick runs (15 minutes), etc.
It is forbidden to park on the street
The city of Antwerp, in the north of Belgium, took a much more radical decision. From 1Er next august visitors will no longer be allowed to park on public roads. Therefore, they will be forced to use exclusively private, underground or multi-story parking lots. Therefore, only residents are allowed to leave their vehicles on the street.. To do this, they will need to request a “resident’s card” from the city hall and stick it on the windshield.
Fortunately, this measure does not apply to the entire city. Only the epicenter and part of the banks of the Scheldt are affected by this event. Goal? Make this part of town more pedestrian-friendly by reducing road traffic, particularly due to vehicles looking for parking.
Many exceptions
Thus, this event is aimed mainly at tourists and visitors. Does this mean that you will no longer be able to park in front of your friends to visit them? Not really, but they will need to register your registration number previously on a special portal of the website of the municipality. They will then be able to stay parked… a maximum of 3 hours for €3.80 per hour!
This measure does not apply to people with limited mobility. Also not entrepreneurs, craftsmen and users of a shared car, if they have a special disclaimer. Finally, the medical professions, physical therapists, nurses, doctors, midwives, etc. will also be able to have a parking pass for 75 euros per month!
