The new Mini is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated electric cars in the coming months. The British manufacturer is embarking on a deep transition to electric power, with an electric Countryman coming soon, a model based on the same underpinnings as the BMW iX1.

After the presentation of the exterior design, the manufacturer reveals some details about the new engines that will be available. And good news, the future electric Mini must make a move.

The future electric Mini “doubles the bet”

The next Mini Cooper will be offered in two electric versions. There will be an entry-level Cooper E that will be powered by an engine from 184 hp (just like the current Cooper SE), while the top-of-the-line Cooper SE will have the power 218 hp. Although Mini hasn’t announced it yet, it’s likely that the family will expand a bit later with a 100% electric version of the JCW.

The Cooper E and Cooper SE will also differ in battery, with the first models equipped with a battery pack 40.7 kWhwhile the second benefits from capacitance 54.2 kWh. The range should be between 300 km for the first, and 400 km for the second

That’s frankly not a luxury, given that the current Mini Cooper SE struggles, depending on the conditions, to cover 200km on a single charge thanks to its small 32.6kWh battery.

Driving sensations are preserved

Mini promises that the typical driving experience of previous models will be preserved, in particular thanks to the built-in lithium-ion battery under the floor. This solution optimizes the weight distribution and maneuverability of the car, without compromising driving pleasure.

Performance and payload details are still unknown. We don’t yet know if this new generation will be offered with heat engines.

However, according to the first rumors, the new Mini Cooper should also be offered in a micro-hybrid version based on a 48-volt system with thermal power units and compatible with the future Euro-7 standard.
