Will the legendary Scandinavian manufacturer Saab be revived thanks to a new electric car? The Swedish automaker, which disappeared in 2011, appears to have been secretly working on a zero-emissions sports sedan. But let’s try to see it a little more clearly.

After bankruptcy in 2011, Saab was taken over by National Electric Vehicle Sweden, a car manufacturer founded in 2012. to prevent the loss of brand heritage.

The secret is out

NEVS, which during its decade of existence has experienced many upheavals and a series of changes of owners (now the manufacturer belongs to the Chinese giant Evergrande Group), however, is preparing to close shop, at least as far as the development of new products is concerned. Nevertheless, NEVS presents what may be his final project: an electric sports car called the NEVS Emily GT.

Peter Dahl, a former Saab engineer and then head of the development program at NEVS, is leading the project and introduced the car on his LinkedIn profile. Peter Dahl said: “We can finally reveal one of the many projects that have been secretly worked on with NEVS.

In his post, he also shared an article from the Swedish magazine Auto Motor & Sport, which was apparently the first (and probably the only) to have already been able to test drive the car.

Up to 653 hp

The NEVS Emily GT, which is still in the prototype stage, is powered by four electric motors located on all four wheels. Each of them develops a power of 120 hp, in total 480 hp. The car was also considered in a more powerful version 653 hp and 2200 Nm of torqueable to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just one moment 3.2 seconds.

The NEVS Emily GT was to be equipped with a 175 kWh battery that would provide a range of 1,000 km. So far, the prototype is equipped with a 52 kWh battery from the Saab 9-3 (under the NEVS logo). According to Evergrande’s plans, the car was supposed to arrive around 2020, but the pandemic, combined with the financial crisis that hit the Chinese real estate giant, delayed the plans.

There is little chance that this car will see the light of day, especially since Evergrande’s worries seem to grow every week. The NEVS will also be for sale, and if a buyer comes along, there is little chance that the Emily GT will see the light of day. At least in this form.
