In just five years, Cupra has become one of the most active manufacturers in the European arena. After the success of the Formentor, the Spanish firm is preparing to take another important step with its second electric model after the Born.
So there you go Cupra Tavascan, the brand’s first SUV coupe, a product that stays true to the manufacturer’s “sporty” philosophy while bringing its fair share of new features. The Tavascan will be followed by two other electrified models: the Terramar in 2024, a plug-in hybrid SUV, and the production version of the UrbanRebel, a sporty electric city car. From 2025 the entire Cupra lineup will be electrified.
Characteristic and sporty style
Designed and engineered in Barcelona, the Cupra Tavascan is assembled at a factory in Anhui, China. It is based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen concern, which has already spawned similar models such as the Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Enyaq or Volkswagen ID.4.
With his The length is 4.64 meters, 1.86 meters wide and 1.60 meters tall, the Tavascan is a beautiful baby. It is distinguished by rather strong aesthetic solutions, such as Matrix LED optics with three triangular elements or light-alloy wheels from 19 to 21 inches with copper inserts. The SUV coupe obliges, the fall of the flag is quite pronounced. It remains to be seen what this will do in terms of habitability.
Cupra offers several colors for its Tavascan: Tavascan Blue, Silver White, Atacama Desert, Urano Grey, Hypernova Red and Matte Century Bronze.
With a large screen of 15 inches
The interior retains the sporty and technological spirit of other Cupras. Tavascan has a new 15-inch screen, the largest ever installed on a model of the Spanish manufacturer, and gets some elements we’d like to see gone, like the backlit radio volume strip and air conditioning. A system that has already been used by Volkswagen and which is not very ergonomic.
The infotainment system can be controlled by voice command. It has a customizable interface and is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A small 5.3-inch screen located below the driver’s eyes completes the package.
The Cupra Tavascan is equipped with driver assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, a lane keeping system, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and Car2x technology, which allows the car to “talk” to other models and certain infrastructure to receive information about the road. about traffic jams or even about an upcoming problem while traveling.
Up to 340 hp
Tavascan is available in two versions: Endurance and VZ. The first has one electric motor at the back and develops 286 hp and 545 Nm. The most powerful model gets two engines, one in the front and one in the back, in total 340 hp and 679 Nm. Thus, the Cupra Tavascan VZ can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just a few minutes 5.6 seconds.
Everything is very simple with the battery, only one pack is available. This is a battery 77 kW/h which allows the Spanish SUV to claim approx Range of 550 km according to the WLTP cycle for the Endurance version and 520 km for the VZ version. Five driving modes are available: Range, Comfort, Performance, Cupra and Individual, and paddles on the steering wheel allow you to adjust the regenerative braking according to five levels of intensity.
As for recharging, the Tavascan is based on a 400-volt architecture, which limits the recharging power. Cupra announces Peak power 135 kW. Enough to restore 100 km of autonomy in 7 minutes.
Cupra Tavascan will appear on our roads from next year. Prices in France will be announced at a later date, but for the base version they should probably be around €40,000.
