Soon the end of traffic jams thanks to artificial intelligence? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

THE traffic jams is a constant problem in our daily life: with the increase in road traffic, the road infrastructure is not enough to optimize traffic and limit its impact on users (stress, fatigue, accidents) and the environment (pollution).

It was on the basis of this observation that Pierre-Murat Dogan created Caska company specializing in artificial intelligence in the service of mobility: since 2020, the device has been tested at the intersection of Fontainebleau, Seine and Marne, with the aim of smooth out traffic operating at a traffic light.

Artificial intelligence at the service of smooth traffic

This French entrepreneur was developing a Artificial Intelligence, which allows traffic management to make driving at intersections smoother. It was born from his know-how acquired with his company Digital colorsspecializing in computer image analysis: the idea is to transfer this technology to the traffic service.

Decision Cask (which means “green” in Kurdish, the original language of Dogan) solves a recurring problem during our daily commutes, where we are regularly stopped at red lights when there is no one to pass on the next street.

According to the engineers behind this technology, it is possible earn up to 85% of the time passed the traffic light. Several municipalities are using Kesk solutions, such as Drancy in Saint-Saint-Denis, and other installations are planned in Haut-de-Seine and Yvelines.

Kesk: how does it work?

Thanks to the cameras, Keska’s device is capable detect traffic arrival at the intersection (cars, bicycles, scooters, pedestrians, etc.), as well as intelligently control the turn on of the traffic lights : instead of using a fixed count, the system allows for smoother traffic by changing the light to green on the corresponding street to make it easier for users to travel.

Cities that will have to use this system will even be able to choose to prioritize one type of user, such as pedestrians or cyclists, to facilitate the passage. But if there is no vehicle on the adjacent street, but traffic is still present, the light on the main street will remain green.

This solution makes it possible to intelligently improve traffic conditions, and potentially reduce or even eliminate traffic jams. A valuable ally during rush hour and other critical periods, such as going on vacation, thanks to the fact that traffic flows more smoothly.
