A little more than a year has passed since the launch of the Maserati Grecale, a “small” SUV from Trident. We already knew three thermal versions, equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 300 (GT) or 330 hp. (Modena) and a 2.9-liter V6 with a capacity of 520 hp. (Trofeo), but not yet a 100% electric version.

Now it’s done thanks to the presentation of Maserati Grecale Folgore figures at the Shanghai Motor Show. It is about one of the first luxury SUVs to go electricin particular, in anticipation of the electric Porsche Macan, which will be presented in a few months.

The most powerful of the Greeks

Let’s start with the engine. More precisely, engines. The Maserati Grecale Folgore has two, one per axle, of 205 kW each with a total output of 410 kW, i.e. 557 hp, which makes it the most powerful car in the line with a capacity of 27 hp. more than in the Trofeo variant. Spouses of 820 Nm. The maximum speed is indicated in the technical passport 220 km/h AND 4.1 seconds accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. A big minus, on the other hand, is the weight, which is at least 2.5 tons on the scale.

The motors are powered by a capacitor battery 105 kW/h based on 400 volt architecture. The maximum charging capacity is 150 kW. Maserati announces the passage from 20 to 80% in 29 minutes and an increase of 100 km of autonomy in 9 minutes. In general, the Transalpine firm claims Range of 500 km for its electric Grecale under the WLTP cycle.

There are also four driving modes: Max Range, GT, Sport, Offroad, which are activated using the selector on the steering wheel. These modes change the response of the engines, the adjustment of the suspensions or the firmness of the direction. The Max Range mode (activated automatically when the battery charge drops below 16%) limits the maximum speed to 130 km/h and the intensity of the air conditioning for maximum autonomy.

The most interesting version for France?

Aesthetically, the Maserati Grecale Folgore stands out among the rest of the range with several details. The most noticeable thing is of course the lack of exhaust, but aerodynamic wheels ranging from 19 to 21 inches, gloss black inserts in the radiator grille and copper details also help to set it apart aesthetically from other versions.

It’s in the salon status quo with thermal versions, except for a few details such as the “Folgore” lettering on the instrument panel and seats. The rest is unchanged. Thus, we find a 12.3-inch digital instrument, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a screen just under 8.8 inches, a projection display, a voice assistant or even wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

We don’t yet know when the Maserati Grecale Folgore will hit the market or what its prices will be, but they should surely be higher than the €117,900 claimed for the Grecale Trofeo in France. Except the Folgore version avoids the €50,000 fine compared to the cooled versions. In this case, electric Grecale will surely be more interesting than all other thermal versionseven in four cylinders.
