The third electric model in the Polestar lineup is called the Polestar 4. It’s a D-segment SUV coupe that’s slightly smaller in size and price than the Polestar 3. It has a few things going for it, two of which are particularly interesting: it is the fastest car produced by the Swedish firm, and also an SUV without a rear window.
Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, the Polestar electric and sports SUV coupe will be produced from November 2023 at Geely’s factory in Hangzhou Bay, China, and will enter the local market. To be able to buy a Polestar 4 in Europe, you will have to be patient and wait until early 2024, when the SUV will appear on our roads at prices ranging from approx. 60,000 eurosdepending on the decoration.
At this price and length of 4.83 meters, the Polestar 4 will appear on the market with several competitors, but not necessarily direct ones. In particular, we mean the Nissan Ariya, Aiways U6, Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.5, Skoda Enyaq Coupé iV and the soon-to-be-released Maserati Grecale Folgore.
Design at a crossroads
The design of the Polestar 4 is not a new interpretation of the Polestar 3, but contains innovative elements, starting with an even more “smooth”, lowered and aerodynamic front end with the characteristic Dual Blade optics. Retractable handles and rackless windows, along with rear slats that optimize airflow around the stern, enhance the Cx. The absence of a rear glass is unique in the modern world of SUVs.
Polestar 4 is over The length is 4.83 meters and has a wheelbase of almost 3 meters, designed to provide maximum comfort. Its width of 2.13 meters (including mirrors) and its height of 1.54 meters confirm the size of the interior space, which also benefits from a full-length glass roof as standard (with electrochromic function as an option). ), adjustable decorative lighting. inspired by sunlight and reclining seats. The diameter of the wheels varies from 20 to 22 inches, depending on the version.
Elegant and environmentally responsible cabin
The interior, developed on the basis of research conducted with Polestar Precept, features soft tech upholstery and materials inspired by the worlds of fashion and sportswear. Special attention is also paid to the selection of available materials “round and low-carbon”that is, durable both in terms of origin and ease of processing.
The rear trunk has a volume 500 literswhich can be increased to 1,536 liters by folding down the rear seats, while the front compartment adds an extra 15 liters of capacity.
On board we find an infotainment system based on the Android Automotive OS and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform with a 15.4-inch screen arranged horizontally. Google integration includes Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play, with regular over-the-air (OTA) updates available, as well as Apple CarPlay. As an option, a Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers and a hybrid amplifier with a capacity of 1400 W is available.
The Swedish SUV has nine airbags, twelve cameras, LiDAR and twelve ultrasonic sensors, as well as a driver monitoring camera to prevent fatigue-related accidents. The 10.2-inch digital instrument panel is complemented by a 14.7-inch head-up display, which also has a “snow mode” function to change the color of the text from white to yellow.
Up to 544 hp under the hood
Polestar 4 is based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) developed by Geely Holding. The line starts with the Long Range single-engine version 272 hpbattery with a capacity of 102 kWh (94 kWh net) and a range of up to 600 km according to the WLTP cycle. The maximum speed is 180 km/h, and acceleration to 100 km/h takes 7.4 seconds.
The most powerful and fastest version, Long Range Dual Motor, has two motors, four-wheel drive, power 544 hp and in the range of 564 km. The maximum speed is 200 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds. The battery is the same as the long range single motor version.
For both versions, DC charging can reach power 200 kW, while the on-board charger for AC charging can reach 22 kW. The Polestar 4 also offers V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality for charging external electrical devices, while a heat pump is standard, using ambient heat to pre-condition the cabin and battery.
It remains to be seen if this model will ever hit the roads of France. Indeed, due to the collision with the law and problems with Citroën and DS due to the history with the dark logo, the arrival of Polestar in France still does not seem relevant, even if the Swedish firm has found a common language with the chevron firm.
