Porsche Cayenne (2023): waiting for the electric version News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your inbox

The third generation Porsche Cayenne has been on the market for about six years, which is almost the entire life cycle of the car. However, Porsche does not present a new generation of Cayenne, but restyling.

The cycle is slightly reversed for the German SUV for the simple reason that the fourth generation will be 100% electric, which implies a radical change in technology. Its receipt is planned for 2025-2026.

To keep its customers waiting, Porsche is presenting a significantly updated version of its Cayenne at the Shanghai Motor Show with several noticeable new features at first glance. Added to this is the rationalization of the engine line.

Porsche Cayenne: very noticeable restyling

From the side of Zuffenhausen, we call “one of the most important product updates in Porsche history”. Considering the first photos, I want to believe them. Indeed, the new lights are similar to those on the Taycan and are now standard LED, while Matrix LED HD headlights with more than 32,000 pixels per lens are available as an option.

The grille is also new, with a redesigned air intake that gives it an even bigger look. The same goes for the back with a thin LED strip, of course LED, which looks identical to the previous version from a distance, but up close the 3D design stands out. New 20-inch to 22-inch alloy wheels and a new exterior color scheme complete the package.

Porsche Cayenne: up to three screens

As you can see from the photos, the new Cayenne has not evolved much, although the main changes are clearly visible starting from the presence of this famous third screen in front of the passenger. This is not news for Porsche, as the Taycan already offers this equipment as an option. We also find this system on other high-end models, such as the new Ferrari Purosangue.

The Porsche Cayenne is equipped with a new instrument screen based on a 12.6-inch plate instead of the old arrow meters. The Cayenne is updated at this level and inherits the system we find on the Taycan. This screen is fully customizable and can display information related to driving, navigation or even various functions of the car.

The second screen is located in the center and has a diagonal of 12.3 inches. Its role remains the same and it covers the entire infotainment side. The interface is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Porsche has also revised the menu and some features.

The third monitor, a 10.9-inch touchscreen, is designed for the front passenger. It allows you to control various functions (navigation, multimedia content, etc.) and even watch series. The screen has a special film that prevents the driver from seeing the screen from his seat to avoid any form of distraction.

Porsche Cayenne: Still available in hybrid form

Since this is a restyling, there are no major changes, but there are still some improvements. All versions of the restyled Cayenne are now equipped with the PASM system as standard equipment. Porsche has also made some changes to the suspension, improving roll control.

Under the hood, we find a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 as standard 353 hp and 500 Nmwhile surprisingly the Cayenne S is now powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from 474 hp and 600 Nm, or by 34 hp. and 50 Nm more than the old S version, which was equipped with a V6. Cayenne S accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and the declared maximum speed is 273 km/h.

The Cayenne is still available in a hybrid version with 470 hp and the presence of a V6 in combination with an electric motor. The model now has an increased battery capacity from 17.9 to 25.9 kWh, providing a range of up to 90 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. A new built-in 11 kW charger reduces charging time to less than 2.5 hours when connected to a suitable power source. Note that the Cayenne Turbo GT has been updated and now develops 660 hp, against 640 in the pre-restyling version.

Porsche Cayenne vintage 2023 will be released on the market in the summer 91,350 euros (Coupe version from 95,430 euros). The Cayenne E-Hybrid is on sale from 105,712 euros (Coupé version from 108,712 euros), and the Cayenne S from 109,933 euros (Coupe version from 115,213 euros). New models are already available for order. In France, the first deliveries will take place from the end of July 2023.
