THE Peugeot 5008 the second generation was released in 2017. After the first restyling in 2020, next year it will give way to a completely new version. Faced with an offensive led by Renault with, in particular, launch Australian last year (direct competitor 3008), and a new one Renault Space a few months ago the lion has to pull out its claws! In France, the segment of large family SUVs is an important market, and the offer in the 7th place is quite limited. It’s an impossible call for Peugeot to miss… But what does the lion manufacturer have planned for its large family SUV by 2024?
The future Peugeot 5008 (2024): a design that will not change much
It is planned for the beginning of 2024. this is the third generation of the 5008 should arrive in a few months immediately after the announcement new 3008 at the end of this year. As we know, the current 5008 is a success and Peugeot’s order book remains full. This is a very versatile car that offers excellent on-board capacity, as well as a large trunk volume (639 dm3). But if the 5008 sells well, that’s more than enough due to its designmodern and elegant! And for its new version, Peugeot has to tiptoe there in terms of design. Understand that there should not be a revolution. We’re not touching on that winning formula of 890,000 sales in Europe for the 3008 and 317,000 for the 5008 (including 351,000 and 123,000 models respectively in France) since they went on sale in 2016 and 2017.
According to the current formula, the exterior styling of the next 5008 will borrow the styling of the future 3008, which, in particular, is marked always more pace and with sportsmanship, and is symbolized three sharp claws on the face. At the rear, it will retain its large family SUV characteristics with a chrome-trimmed quarter window, a less raked rear window and a low sill. And in the salon? Ii-Cockpit will be updated, but in an extended version, exchange design and technology from 3008.
The future Peugeot 5008 (2024): hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines
In fact, the brightest will be the least noticeable. This is an unprecedented technical basis on which it will be developed. Like its younger sibling the 3008, it will adopt a new group platform Stellanthis (Average STLA), able to integrate a large number of different engines. We will find, in particular, a new 48 V hybrid engine that offers up to 15% less consumption compared to the old PureTech.
Logically, the future 5008 should also include a plug-in hybrid engine, with power levels up to 300 hp. But here everything should become more complicated. Indeed, this type of engine is not very compatible with a spacious 7-seater interior and a large trunk due to the batteries placed under it. Of course, habitability and loading sizes will be confirmed by our lab. Finally, in terms of autonomy, Peugeot will prefer long distances, order 700 kmto best meet the needs and expectations of a family audience.
Future Peugeot 5008 (2024): what competition lies ahead?
This is the third generation Peugeot 5008 therefore will see the light in 2024. And if seven-seater models become scarce, manufacturers will not stop selling them. Demand is still there, as evidenced by good sales figures for models in this category. And what exactly is the competition for next year’s large family SUV Lion?
Its direct rival, the new one Renault Espace, which is actually an enhanced version of the excellent Austral has just been introduced. Offered only with the only unique hybrid engine with a capacity of 200 hp, it offers two configurations for 5 and 7 seats. Using technology taken from the Austral, the sixth-generation Espace also relies on its design, which is much more modern than a certain Kadjar that has shown the weight of the years. It will go on sale by summer, but prices are not yet known. Finally, by 2024, a new generation Nissan X-Trail will also arise and Mercedes GLB a facelift will help. On the other hand, the future Volkswagen Tiguan could it settle for five seats in the future, skipping the Allspace version. Also, don’t neglect the future. Dacia Bigster, which could become a serious competitor with good looks and a much more affordable price!
