Volvo Recharge: on board the Scandinavian concept Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your mailbox

Two years ago we talked about Volvo Recharge concept on AutoPlus. Today we have an opportunity approach him from close An opportunity to evaluate this concept and dive deeper into what the future of the Scandinavian brand predicts in terms of design. As the new EX90 or a a completely new B-segment SUVwhose arrival is scheduled for the month of June following.

Video tour:

The Volvo Manifesto

To define its Recharge concept, Volvo and Robin Page, Head of Designtalk about “a manifesto for the all-electric future of Volvo Cars, as well as a new type of car.”

Half-way between an SUV and a station wagonthe Recharge concept is presented Volvo’s new design languagealways in the spirit of “less is more”. A true mantra Scandinavian design heritage. All unnecessary elements have been removed here. The result is a car with smooth and clean lines.

Starting with the radiator grill, which has a shield-like structure and proceed to new light signature brand cars with zero emissions. Like the new EX90 100% electric SUV, the Recharge concept also has its front optics in the shape of “Thor’s hammer”.

As soon as we consider this concept of 3/4, we notice a deep hood, very streamlined and pulled back roofline. This pencil stroke clearly goes in the direction of aerodynamics. A very important element for a zero-emission car.

The rear, on the other hand, contrasts with the overall streamlined design. Here we are clearly in verticality with some L-shaped opticsbrand features, somewhat modernized.

Zen atmosphere

As soon as you sit on this Scandinavian concept, after opening its antagonistic doorwe use a spacious and extremely bright interior. Like the outside, the atmosphere is inside peeled. We note the dashboard, very horizontal, all sober or a small digital tube behind the steering wheel as instruments. Just imposing 15-inch vertical and fixed central touch screen comes to break this minimalist side.

In addition, the materials used are sustainable and natural. Forget leather, Volvo doesn’t have it anymore. Instead, Volvo Recharge has a homemade material called Nordico. It is located on the backs of the seats, headrests, and also on the part of the steering wheel. The rest of the cabin has a Swedish wool is sourced responsiblytransformed into an all-natural breathable fabric with no additives.

From the point of view of housing, then flat floor Volvo Recharge offers more space and a better sitting position for all residents. We also note the ability to raise or lower the height of the seats. They can also rotate to facilitate interchange between passengers.

At the same time, extended wheelbase and 23-inch wheelslocated in the four corners of the concept, confirm increased livelihood and a large space on board.

Technological and safe

Volvo has always had a point active safety occupies a prominent place in the development of this concept. But also future production models. Not surprisingly, the Volvo Recharge packs – right above the windshield – LiDAR sensor. The latter collects data about the car’s surroundings to 250 m, Day and night. An element also found on the new EX90.

At the same time, Volvo Recharge serves as a technology laboratory. A microphone in the rear seats, shaped like a Superman crystal, allows you to monitor Apple Car Play where Built-in Google. It changes color depending on the status of requests.

It remains to be seen what Volvo’s upcoming SUV will leave behind from this Recharge concept.
