
After several years of relative silence, the Japanese manufacturer is reviving and strengthening its European range with the help of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi alliance. Indeed, to complete the small Space Star, the Eclipse Cross SUV and the L200 pickup, Mitsubishi recently launched the new ASX which is simply a redesigned Renault Captur II.
But the strategy will not stop there, as a new model will soon appear: a new generation Mitsubishi Colt, which is none other than a redesigned Clio V! In anticipation of its official opening, the Japanese firm is multiplying teasers, this New picture in which we discover the trunk of a model that takes exactly the same Clio, but with “Mitsubishi” and “Colt” badges.
Mitsubishi Colt: redesigned Clio
Like the Renault Clio, the new Mitsubishi Colt is based on Platform CMF-B, as well as built-in numerous active and passive safety systems. On board we should find a cabin similar to a French town car, with a connected infotainment system the latest generation, equipped with a large touch screen.
“The new Colt will be the second model launched by Mitsubishi Motors this year after the new ASX, with the onslaught continuing next year with the new Outlander PHEV”said Frank Krol, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe: “I am delighted to bring Mitsubishi Motors back to the heart of the European B-segment and offer our customers a new, highly competitive model worthy of the Colt name”.
For its launch, the future Colt will not have the benefit of diesel engines, but petrol and hybrid versions onlywhich make up 80% of the sales volume of segment B city cars.
Mitsubishi Colt: gasoline and hybrid engines
Under the hood we will find the engine 1.0-liter 3-cylinder MPI gasoline engine with a capacity of 67 horsepower, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second power level will be offered with 1.0-liter MPI-T turbocharged, 91 horsepower and paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Completing the assortment is a hybrid power plant with a total capacity of 143 horsepowerwhich combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors and a Battery 1.2 kWhall paired with a multi-mode automatic transmission.
The new Mitsubishi Colt will be produced at the Renault plant in Bursa, Turkey, alongside the Renault Clio. It will be officially presented on June 8, and it will go on sale in Europeautumn 2023. The previous and sixth generation Colt, sold in Europe from 2004 to 2014, sold 403,957 units on the Old Continent.
