Perhaps the Diamond brand has – temporarily – disappeared from the European landscape, however, it remains very active in other markets. The work, as we have seen, continues recently with the presentation of the new Outlander. The manufacturer’s bestseller and a pioneer in plug-in hybridization. Good news: we’ve learned that this new SUV will be Mitsubishi’s return to Europe from 2024. That’s a little over two years after its release. And what we have before us could be another model that we will soon see on our roads.

Ready for production

The XRT is officially a “concept” here, heralding the sixth-generation L200. A pickup that Mitsubishi could always place among the world leaders in this category. But we’re putting “concept” in quotation marks, because underneath the camo are shapes that look like they’re ready for production. We admit, for example the front is in line with the previous L200 and the new Outlander. With a thin strip of LED daytime running lights at the top. And also real headlights in clusters (hidden here under a black mask) a little lower.

The overall proportions are similar to a regular double-cab pickup, and even the taillights are nothing special. We also observe accessories that we can imagine perfectly appearing in the catalog, for example steps, rack or tube. In fact, it seems equipped for competition! Rumor has it that Mistubishi might be testing out his new baby for the next occasion Asian cross-country rally.

Member of the Alliance

And technically, what will the next L200 have in store for us? We remind you now the brand is a member of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi alliance. Thus, it benefits from synergies and for the first time, The L200 will use the technical basis of a competitor, namely the Nissan Navara. It is almost certain that the vehicle will receive a diesel engine, still unavoidable in some markets. But other solutions are possible. For regions with stricter CO2 emissions, the Mitsubishi L200 can probably be fitted Outlander plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The new Mistubishi L200 will start its career in Thailand, then the ASEAN market, then Oceania, before the rest of the world. Will he come to Europe? We don’t know yet.
