Audi: Q2 may finally have a successor Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your mailbox

It is currently one of the smallest models in the Audi range. THE Q2 it a small urban and sports crossover. Launched in 2016, at the time it wanted to compete with the German side BMW X2 and Mercedes GLA. In fact, he played in premium yardwith an offer in full-blooded equipment and an range of engines to suit everyone. Based on a shortened Audi A3 platformit’s in terms of size closer to the city car A1 than the compact A3. in diesel or in essenceprocessing luxury or in Sports version of SQ2, it’s Audi’s all-in-one entry-level model! In 2020 it was renewed, but since then its future has been uncertain…

Small segments that manufacturers avoid

In 2021, the brand has already stated what it wants remove city car A1 from the catalog. We learned about this last year the small Q2 crossover is also under threat ! Audi preferred models of the upper segment. The strategy was to start the range with the already larger and more luxurious Audi A3. Why such ads? Because the brand wants to move into the high-end market (and in price). To get closer to a an even more exclusive image of the designer, and therefore offer less affordable models. The margin is traditionally lower in segment B, where A1 and Q2 are located. A strategy we also find at Mercedes-Benz, which plans to cut more entry-level models to raise the average price of its cars. In general, most manufacturers, even universal ones, abandon the niche of small cars.

Is the future not so bleak for Q2?

In the case of Audi, however, new announcements have sparked curiosity about a possible replacement for the Audi Q2. During the annual press conference, the brand presented its product plan (including electrical appliances for the coming years). And that’s exactly what Markus Dusmann, CEO of Audi, did confirmed the arrival of a smaller model positioned below the Audi Q4 e-tron. As a reminder, the Q4 e-tron is the electric equivalent of the Q5, located in the same segment C. Will these announcements mark the return of the model in the segment B? Or by “less” we should mean still a C-segment model, but with a different philosophy? Doubt still lingers, but the Audi looks good either way ready to continue blunting his range. And this despite the contradictory announcements regarding 2021 and 2022. Audi will only offer fully electric models from 2027 with the aim of having all-electric range in 2033. This is two years ago ultimatum of the European Union on termination of the termwhich has been hotly debated in recent days.
