Several days ago, volkswagen presented us with a concept car called the ID.2all, which foreshadows a 100% electric city car, the production version of which is expected in 2025.
The size of a Polo, this is the future Volkswagen ID.2 will sell for less than €25,000 with a claimed range of 450km thanks to a 58kWh battery. Located on the front axle, its electric motor can develop up to 226 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
Volkswagen ID.2 GTX: a more economical version in boxes
But if that wasn’t enough for you, know that the German manufacturer is preparing us a more dynamic version. Indeed, director of technical development Kai Grünitz confirmed that his teams are working on a sports version: “It will be front-wheel drive only, without all-wheel drive”– he confided to our colleagues from Higher gear.
Not enough to reduce the performance of this version, which should accept the icon GTX as well as for dynamic versions of other models in the Volkswagen ID range. (ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, ID.Buzz): “I mean a figure of authority”Grünitz smiles, “but it will be a surprise when we see each other next time”.
Volkswagen ID.2 GTX: launch in 2025
Even if the model does not look as exciting as the Volkswagen Polo GTI, the future Volkswagen ID.2 GTX should allow the Wolfsburg-based firm to offer a more dynamic city car in its catalogue, to offer its fans something to eat when its model range becomes 100% electric, i.e. by 2030…
The sports version of the Volkswagen ID.2 GTX should be released simultaneously with the serial version of the ID.2, in 2025. We will remind that by 2026, the German company plans to bring to the market no less 10 new 100% electric models, including the restyled Volkswagen ID.3, an extended version of the ID. Buzz, the ID.7 sedan, a 100% electric SUV, or even an even more affordable electric car for under €20,000.
