Since 25 years, BMW is a partner of the MotoGP Motorcycle World Championship. To mark the occasion, the Munich-based firm has just unveiled the new M2 as a safety car. It joins the M3 Touring in the fleet of intervention vehicles. The car can be seen from the opening of the MotoGP season in Portugal from March 24 to 26.

A small BMW M4

The BMW M2 is undoubtedly the last BMW M that is not equipped with any electrification system. The car is equipped with a 3.0-liter bi-turbo six-cylinder S58 engine that develops a small amount of power. 460 hp and 550 Nm of torque.

It’s rear-wheel drive, and BMW hasn’t confirmed an xDrive version yet. But like the BMW M4, the M2 should also be eligible for all-wheel drive with the option to always switch to traction thanks to the variable system associated with that transmission.

The BMW M2 is available with a six-speed manual transmission that allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. 4.3 seconds. Without the third pedal, namely with the eight-speed automatic gearbox, the speed from 0 to 100 km/h drops to 4.1 seconds.

A somewhat special BMW M2

This version of the Safety Car is equipped with various elements for use on the MotoGP circuit, namely a roll bar, Recaro seats, six-point seat belts, a fire extinguisher, a safety car roof arch and a fire front.

This model is also equipped with several M Performance parts, namely the exhaust system, chassis, carbon side mirror housings, diffuser and rear spoiler.
