The current Peugeot 308, released in 2021, was supposed to embody the Peugeot update. The brand experienced a long period of doubt after the crisis of 2008 virtual bankruptcy in 2014, when the state was going to buy the brand, and in a maneuver the PSA group quit. 2015 was marked by the return of colors, p the “Return to Racing” plan implemented after the arrival of new CEO Carlos Tavares. For this, 17,000 jobs were lost.

The group was reorganized, for each brand clear strategy and positioning. To restore profitability, Peugeot had to enter the high-end market. It passed a new identity and a more modern, more technological image for the brand, which took the opportunity to unveil its new logo.

A successful upmarket move for the 308

308, the third part of the title, was the first model that allowed Peugeot to return to the spotlight. It is true that at first glance the evolution compared to the previous generation was obvious. The brand has finally shed that old fashioned image and has finally been able to capture more market share in France and Europe.

Finishing quality, choice of materials and many available options reflect these efforts. At launch, the 308 was offered with a wide range of engines. The proposal included three internal combustion engines: 130 horsepower diesel engineAND two gasoline 110 and 130 horsepower. Options plug-in hybrids appeared, respectively 180 and 225 horsepower! Since then, in 2022, a 100% electric version called e-308 was added

success was as 41,000 copies were sold in France in 2022 (the first full year). 90% bonus compared to last year! She even entered the Top 10, taking 7th placed place in the general classification. Its younger sister, the 208, has become the best-selling European car, overtaking the Volkswagen Golf for the first time in 22 years! But, unfortunately, we just found out, despite this good health 308 differs from its original version. Petrol block 1.2 Puretech 110 horsepower no longer in the catalog.

It is not clear if this measure is temporary, but for now Renault’s competitor is also new remove the initial version of your Mégane E-Tech (EV40), to admit that there is cause for questioning… Of course not not the bravest or best block, but he had the merit of lowering his entrance ticket. New 308 on gasoline 130 horsepower now costs 29,420 euros. Against 24,800 euros earlier for the 110 hp version! Quite a difference, which can probably be explained low success rate of this engine. This 110bhp variant was also (significantly) not the queen of reliability…Hopefully this will only be temporary…
