At the BMW Group Annual Earnings Conference, Oliver Zipes, Chairman of the BMW Board of Directors, revealed more details about new projection display from the German manufacturer, which will be offered on the first serial model of the new generation of BMW, Christ New class.
Indeed, BMW is currently working on an entirely new technology platform for the New class, a new generation of models from the Bavarian brand. This platform will usher in a new era for BMW that will focus on digital technology, sustainability and electric vehicle design.
BMW Panoramic Vision: a new type of projection display
New projection display system BMW Panoramic Vision, which extends across the entire width of the lower part of the windshield, will create a unique interaction and information surface for all passengers. It will equip the first models of this new generation of 100% electric BMWs.
This new on-board display system is inspired by the principle “Hands on the wheel, eyes on the road”, and also allows displaying important driving information right in front of the eyes of the driver and even his passengers. However, this type of display is not new, as it recalls Renault’s attempts in this field on the Espace III or Twingo I, or more recently on the Peugeot i-Cockpit, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.
System in detail BMW Panoramic Vision has a dark display area located on the lower edge of the windshield and displays information with increased light intensity and contrast for easier reading. There, on the left, useful driving information such as speed or driver assistance systems, in the center information from the infotainment system, while other information can be displayed on the right, such as the time.
BMW Panoramic Vision: See you at the 2023 Munich Motor Show
The Bavarian firm reminds that on-board computers with a digital display first appeared on BMW in the 80s, on the BMW 7 Series. In 2001, the first iDrive system made it possible to reduce the number of buttons and switches, create a more modern and streamlined interior Jer.
Soon after, the first projection displays appeared in BMW series production, and the BMW Group continues its quest for innovation with this new generation of BMW Panoramic Vision projection displays, which will be introduced by 2025 in 100% electric production. models in New class.
At the beginning of the year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the BMW i Vision Dee concept already gave us a good idea of ββββthe work of the German brand in terms ofimmersive user experienceturning the windshield into an augmented reality projection surface.
BMW makes an appointment for us at the next one IAA Mobility Fair in Munichwhich will take place from September 5 to 10, 2023, to learn more about the BMW Panoramic Vision display as well as its new BMW iDrive infotainment system.
