
At the annual earnings conference of the BMW Group, the chairman of the board of the Bavarian firm, Oliver Zipse, announced the first details of the eighth generation of BMW. BMW 5 serieswhose global launch is expected in the monthOctober 2023.
According to BMW, the new sedan has already been announced “More dynamic and more comfortable than ever”with design “sporty-elegant”. It will be based on a flexible architecture that will allow it to be offered together gasoline and diesel engines equipped with 48 volt technology, but also plug-in hybrids and 100% electric.
The new BMW 5 series: the long-awaited versions
The head of BMW gave some hints about the composition of the range of the upcoming 5 Series: it will indeed be offered with a signed version M-Performance, equipped with a 100% electric motor. This will build on the success of the BMW i4 M50, which is the best-selling BMW M model in the world in 2022.
As for the previous opus, there will also be a manor version with BMW 5 Series Touring : a very popular silhouette, especially in Europe. This is from spring 2024 that it will also be offered in a 100% electric version with Sedan BMW i5 AND BMW i5 Touring.
These new models will complement the range of 100% electric cars and two-wheelers from the BMW Group, which can be found under the BMW, BMW Motorrad, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
New BMW 5 Series: 50-year history
Launched in 1972 year, the BMW 5 Series is a must-have model from the Munich manufacturer. Last year, it celebrated its 50th anniversary and established itself as a benchmark for seven generations. Since its foundation in 1972, over 10 million copies BMW 5 series that were produced.
The new BMW 5 Series sedan will be produced inBMW plant in Dingolfing, located in Lower Bavaria, Germany: it is simply the largest production of the brand in Europe. This plant will also celebrate its 50th year of production this year: since 1973, it has produced numerous BMW models, including currently the BMW 7 Series and 8 Series, as well as the 100% electric BMW iX.
The Dingolfing plant is also BMW’s center of competence for the production of 100% electric motors: it is therefore responsible for the production of the electric motors and high-voltage batteries that will soon be equipped with the BMW i5.
