Recalls are commonplace in the automotive industry, and unfortunately, no manufacturer is spared. Even those that are considered the most reliable on the market are not immune to the impact of a campaign that addresses more or less important and serious problems for car passengers or other road users. One can mention, for example, Peugeot, whose 208 is presented, for example, by a fire hazard. A concern that has now been addressed precisely by a massive recall campaign to repair all affected vehicles. But today another manufacturer is talking about it.

Belt problem

This time it’s the Hyundai Santa Fe, a large SUV from the Korean manufacturer, which is notably offered as a hybrid. The latter is currently the subject of a medium-scale recall campaign due to a seat belt issue. A concern that also applies to the Dacia Spring, as we mentioned in a previous article. But this time the problem is somewhat different. Indeed, we are talking about the pre-tensioning system. This works by means of a small bursting cartridge which allows action and lock the belt in a fraction of a second in the event of an accident. However, it is this device that creates the problem.

USA only

Indeed, on some hybrid modelsthen the system may explode even more violent than usually expected. It is about the release of gas during the activation of the system. Currently, this only applies to versions assembled in the United States between December 18, 2020 and July 26, 2022, and plug-in hybrids produced between May 13, 2021 and July 21, 2022. It remains to be seen whether this issue will affect copies sold in Europe.
