Now the Bavarian company is developing a new version of the infotainment system BMW iDrive : It will be gradually rolled out on current models throughout 2023.

“Today, BMW iDrive is more than just a control system and an operating system – it is a world of digital means for people and cars to interact and exchange information”Stefan Durach, Senior Vice President BMW Group Connected Company Development explains: “As we stated at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2023, we are constantly improving the user experience based on the latest technologies available”.

BMW iDrive: more understandable and optimized interface

This commitment translates into an enriched offer of digital content for information and entertainment with shorter update cycles, more complete and accurate information about EV charging stations, not to mention improved access to a host of online services.

The new version of BMW iDrive will be different new graphical interfacewith a new main screen with clearly organized features and its optimized menu structure. It was designed to focus on touch screen interaction and natural language.

Thus, it will be possible to call the desired function without going through the submenu. Instead, “live widgets,” function icons located vertically on the left side of the screen, can be customized and selected with a simple finger gesture.

BMW iDrive: greater ease of use

The new version of BMW iDrive also offers a more convenient use on the large curved screen Curved BMW displaywhich will be the privileged point of interaction for “multisensory experience” promised by the new BMW iDrive system.

In addition, the QuickSelect system concept provides an improved menu structure inspired by modern mobile devices. The new BMW iDrive system aims to offer its users the perfect driving experience by displaying the right information in the right place.

New system BMW OS version 8.5 will be gradually extended to the BMW 7 Series, iX, i4, BMW X5, X6, X7 and XM, from July 2023 : it will remain Linux-based and will be linked to the largest version of BMW’s curved screen.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1 will be eligible, from November 2023to a new digital experience based on BMW’s curved display: a new system BMW OS version 9.0which will be based on Android Open Source Project software and is still under development.
