Mitsubishi: an unprecedented offensive is being prepared News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your inbox

The multi-layered Japanese manufacturer has just presented its ambitions for the coming years, including an ambitious product strategy.

Over the next five years, Mitsubishi will introduce 16 new models around the worldand for some of them the brand will join forces with Renault and Nissan, while others will be developed in-house thanks to significant investment in research and development.

These new models will mainly focus on electrification, reliability, comfort and spirit of adventure, thanks in particular to the new S-AWC all-wheel drive system. Mitsubishi plans to launch seven models with an internal combustion engine and nine electrified models.

Synergy will multiply

Among the first are a compact MPV, a seven-seater SUV, a large MPV, a pickup truck, two kei cars and a crossover based on the XFC concept. All these models, starting with the kei cars, will not make it to Europe. For the Old Continent, Mitsubishi will obviously focus on its electrified cars.

Four models are planned, developed thanks to the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, such as the already announced ASX (based on the Captur), the upcoming Colt (related to the Clio) and two more compact cars that we do not know about yet.

Then there will be five all-Mitsubishi models, namely an electric pickup, a C-segment electric SUV, a C-segment hybrid SUV, a hybrid large SUV and a hybrid minivan.

Strengthening within the Alliance

By 2030, Mitsubishi plans to sell 50% electrified cars (versus 7% now) and 100% by 2035. This will reduce (until 2030) CO emissions2 of its new models by about 40% compared to 2010 and CO emissions2 of all commercial activity by 50% compared to 2018.

Mitsubishi is also working on battery supplies, which will increase to 15 GWh by the end of the decade (with an investment of 1.5 billion euros), and the alliance will allow the Japanese manufacturer to take advantage of platforms, autonomous driving technologies and software.
