Lamborghini Huracan: the first information about its replacement Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

The news around Lamborghini obviously revolves around the replacement of the Aventador. The Transalpine manufacturer also recently unveiled the new V12 hybrid of its new supercar, ahead of the final model unveiling in a few weeks.

But in Lamborghini it is not only the Aventador and its successor. The Huracan is also at the end of its life, and even if it stays in the catalog for at least another year and a half, the first information about its replacement is starting to trickle in.

In an interview with our colleagues at Road & Track, Lamborghini boss Stefan Winkelmann gave the arrival date for the Huracan replacement: it will be until the end of 2024.

Get out the V10, make way for the V8

Unsurprisingly, this new version won’t be 100% thermal, and it’ll ditch its legendary 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 along the way. to switch to a hybrid V8. Stefan Winkelmann confirmed the information, which was already half-worded by Reuven Mohr, Lamborghini’s technical director, more than six months ago.

Information regarding this V8 will most likely not be the 4.0-liter bi-turbo from the Volkswagen group that we find in the Lamborghini Urus and other RS6s, but rather a new unit, a bi-turbo, whose turbochargers would operate exclusively between 7,000 and 10,000 rpm.. Below this threshold, the engine will operate as a naturally aspirated engine supported by one or more electric motors.

A little Aventador?

We don’t yet know if this system will be similar to the Aventador’s replacement system. Recall that Lamborghini presented a new power plant, in this case with a V12 for this model, but which works with three electric motors carrying full power 1015 hp.

The drivetrain is all-wheel drive, with two electric motors at the front (one per wheel) and one at the rear, paired with a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The battery has a capacity of 3.8 kWh and charges in 30 minutes with alternating current up to 7 kW.

The Lamborghini Urus is also due to go hybrid soon, starting this year, likely with the same engine as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, namely a 700 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8.
