Electric bicycles have been on the rise for several years. They are appreciated by both those who like weekend trips and those who go to work and are looking for a way to drive faster without getting tired, and which allows you to leave the car in the garage. Except that the number of accidents, too, although there are more and more of them on the roads, and that not all of them necessarily follow the rules of good behavior. And now the government wants to act to change that.

A new law?

There The law on mobility orientation provided several elements that allow municipalities to better regulate the use of these motorized vehicles. Last summer, a group of senators also tried to make it mandatory to register all those who drive more than 15 km/h, but in the end the bill was rejected. In early 2023, it finally returns again through the Senate. And this time the text is even broader, as it now covers all vehicles without heat engines, the speed of which is equal over 6 km/h. Only cars for people with reduced mobility are excluded.

What are the fines?

At this point, we don’t yet know if this proposal will be confirmed or if it can ever actually be implemented. Anyway, the Senate is also proposing sanctions in the event of failure to implement this law, should it see the light of day in the next few years. Thus, riding an unregistered bicycle or e-scooter will be liable for a 135 euro fine, as well as the immobilization of the vehicle in individual cases. It remains to be seen whether this law will be passed by the government or not in the coming weeks.
