You probably don’t know Izera, a young Polish car manufacturer created in 2021 by ElectroMobility Poland, founded in 2016 on the initiative of the state to work in the energy sector and, de facto, electric mobility. It’s a small company with big ambitions because it has them to produce electric cars at particularly low prices.

A tough mission for a manufacturer who has to start from scratch unless they turn to suppliers for all of the battery and drivetrain parts. And this is exactly what Izera has done, whose future cars will be based on Geely Group’s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform, just like the Smart #1.

Geely also becomes a supplier

This is a first for Geely: so far its platforms have only been used for its own brands (Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr, etc.). Thus, Izera opens a new chapter for Geely: supplier for other manufacturers. As Volkswagen did with the MEB (a platform designed exclusively for electric vehicles), on which various Ford models will also be based. This is a great way to quickly make a technology that is very expensive to develop profitable.

The adoption of this new structure will lead to changes from an aesthetic point of view for the Izera, mainly for the SUV – the first model to be launched in 2026 – but we do not yet know whether Torino Design, the studio responsible for the styling of the Izera presented in 2021 year, will be involved again, or if everything is done in-house.

What definitely will not change is the appearance of the SUV, which is thanks to the SEA platform wins in prosperity. As for the technical specifications, we know that there will only be rear-wheel drive versions. The electric motor will work from batteries with a capacity of 51 kWh or 69 kWhat the same time, the maximum charging power will be 150 kW.

Cheap cars of European production

The models of the Izera brand will not be produced in China, but at the Polish factory in Jaworzno, a city in the industrial zone of Upper Silesia, which also includes Tychy, where the Stellantis factory is located.

The Izera plant will require an investment of approximately €1.27 billion and will create almost 15,000 jobs: 2,400 within the company and 12,000 for the supply chain. The production facilities, when they are fully operational, will be 200,000 cars per year.

Production of the SUV should begin in 2025, with first deliveries expected in 2026. Pre-orders will be open from 2024. Geely also plans to acquire the entire Izera company in order to integrate it into its portfolio of brands and thus gain from a competitive manufacturer and factory in Europe.
