Ford is currently going through a period of great change. The American brand, which has been sold here almost since the beginning, has always been famous for its wide range of models. City cars, compact cars, sedans, minivans and even utility vehicles! Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, Ford was one of the last to maintain a presence in some less popular categories. Like minivans, for example, with the S-Max and Galaxy models.
But in recent months, the brand has begun a large-scale restructuring process. She deleted from her directory sedan Mondeo and city car Kaand next year both minivans will retire. Party is no longer available for purchase in France, but its older sister Focus will leave the central place in 2025. Its historic factory in Saarluis in Germany is even looking for a buyer.
An electric wave is approaching
But let’s not use bad language, because the range is still well stocked compared to other brands that swear by SUVs. But, like its competitors, the latter occupies an increasingly important place in relation to traditional categories. Thus we find Ecosport, Puma, Kuga, Explorer and Mustang Mach-Efully electric.
The person responsible for all this evil, you know, is electricity. Ford is phasing out several of its historic models to prepare for new models. Especially electric SUVs! That’s part of Ford’s goal to offer a 100% electric European range by 2030… These announcements go hand in hand with the European Union’s desire to offer only thermal models by 2035.
100% electric SUVs of the future
We have been waiting for new announcements, they have just been announced by the brand. The next generation of brand SUVs will be 100% electric ! So the Mustang Mach-E should get some new support soon Electric Ecosport, Puma, Kuga and Explorer. However, if Ford decides to keep these four models in its lineup. For example, it is difficult to understand how Ecosport would be renewed. It is designed and developed for South America cheap model which was sold in Europe before the arrival of Puma in 2019.
Ford wants to Americanize its range on the Old Continent, eventually with only SUVs, pick-ups and 4X4s. What about the Bronco in the face of these new ads? The big 4X4, a rival to the Jeep Wrangler, will be the only one offered exclusively a heat engine. It should go on sale this year after its European premiere at the last Brussels Motor Show in January last year. Of course, at the moment, all this is rather vague, and Ford needs to clarify its action plan (and product) in the coming months.
