Thermal ban in 2035: what about the rest of the world? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

A few days ago, the European Parliament voted forprohibition of the sale of thermal cars from 2035 in Europe. From this date, it will no longer be possible to purchase a new petrol or diesel, 100% thermal or hybrid model.

Of course, we are not alone in this situation, as this decision will not remain without consequences for employment in the automotive industry in Europe, but also inother countries of the world. Let’s summarize the various countries that want to ban internal combustion engines.

Ban on thermals: we are not alone

Not far from us, in Norway will be the first country to ban the sale of thermal cars from 2025. Icelandthe prohibition of thermal baths is planned for 2030, as well as in UKwhere hybrid cars will be banned in 2035.

On the other side of the Atlantic, there is also a trend towards prohibition: Canadaa ban on the sale of 100% thermal cars is established until 2035. THE UNITED STATESCalifornia is often cited as an example, but at least five other states have decided to ban thermal cars: Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

After all, until 17 US states can pass measures prohibiting the sale of thermal cars, but each state must provide specifics. In South America Chile also plans to ban thermals in 2035.

Ban on thermals: a decisive measure

This is a real global trend against the internal combustion engine: even in Asia Japan plans to ban them by 2035. However, hybrid cars will be excluded from the event to preserve the distinctiveness of Toyota, the national manufacturer.

in ChinaAgainst all expectations, the policy in this area is much less strict: a 50% threshold will be set to allow the sale of hybrid and hydrogen models, and the remaining 50% for hybrids. However, Hainan Province plans to allow only electric vehicles. AT Singaporethe ban on thermal cars is also planned for 2030.

In Africa, even if this trend is marginal, some projects in this area are taking shape: c Egyptthere is already talk of banning thermal cars in 2040, while green hatthe deadline of 2035 has already been mentioned.

The rest of the world must join the movement: at the last COP26 on climate change, at least 40 countries undertook to ban heat engines for 2040 at the latest.
