After three years of commercialization and endeavors that were difficult to say the least due to software issues, Volkswagen ID.3 gets a well-deserved update. The one we consider the Golf XXIthousand therefore, the century returns to the front of the stage with some new features.

After approx 600,000 units sold, Volkswagen intends to color its sales a bit, even if the recipe doesn’t really change. The car is still based on the MEB platform, the same as the Volkswagen ID.4, Cupra Born and other Skoda Enyaqs.

Volkswagen ID.3 restyling: a style that changes little

As you can see, there are few changes from an aesthetic point of view. The machine is still measuring 4.26 meters1.55 meters high, and the trunk has a corresponding capacity of 385 liters.

The more observant will no doubt notice some changes at certain levels, with a revised front bumper housing several air intakes and a redesigned grille. From now on, Volkswagen supplies its ID.3 with standard LED headlights.

You also, no doubt, noticed that there are fewer “playful” elements on various components of the body. The new ID.3 is a more “mature” car. Gone, for example, are the stickers on the sides.

Volkswagen ID.3 restyling: the interior is finally up to par?

The interior of the ID.3 has also been updated based on customer feedback. The materials in the door panels are higher quality, and the various elements of the dashboard are also generally a bit more refined.

The steering wheel is now not made of leather, but made of a more ecological material. Recycled materials also proliferated inside. We find them, in particular, on seats, floor mats or on the roof.

As for the technological aspect, the software part has been updated, with the possibility of introducing new functions even after the purchase of the car, through updates and excessive downloads.

Restyled Volkswagen ID.3: range, charging and power

Engineers also worked to improve the route planning system, which tells the GPS where and for how long to stop to recharge during a long trip. In Plug & Charge mode, you can select only compatible charging stations without using phone apps or payment cards. This is exactly the same principle as Tesla with its Superchargers.

Two-way charging is also available to use car battery power to charge small electrical and electronic devices. The infotainment system has new menus, including a shortcut for direct access to battery charging functions or video games to reduce time during stops to recharge the car.

Technically, the new Volkswagen ID.3 still has a single engine located in the rear, which makes it mobile. There is engine power 204 hpwith a couple 310 Nmfor maximum speed 160 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds for the model equipped with a 58 kWh battery (autonomy 425 km according to the WLTP cycle) and 7.9 seconds for the ID.3 with a 77 kWh battery (autonomy 545 km WLTP).

The AC charging power is 11 kW, and DC charging reaches 120 kW for the 58 kWh battery and 170 kW for the 77 kWh battery. The car is still standing 400 volt architecture rather than 800 volts, which limits charging power, even if it’s currently within a good category average.

French pricing has yet to be announced, but Volkswagen told us prices should start around €45,000. Therefore, some versions can claim an environmental bonus of 5,000 euros.
