Exactly one year after its last rise to the top spot, Dacia Sandero again became the best-selling car in Europe in January 2023.

Indeed, as of January 2022, the Romanian compact car has never been able to reclaim the crown of the Queen of Europe, having to settle for second or third place month after month behind formidable competitors. What is Peugeot 208, Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Volkswagen Golf and other T-Roc.

Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen T-Roc and Toyota Yaris are on the podium

Last January, 20,836 Dacia Sanderos are registered in Europe, which is 18% more than in the corresponding period last year. This increase is mainly due to very good sales in France and Italy.

Second on the podium is the Volkswagen T-Roc with 17,754 units (+29%) and third is the Toyota Yaris with 16,004 registrations, an impressive 52% increase. Fourth place is occupied by Toyota Yaris Cross with 15,825 units, which is 25% more.

Among the most noticeable “falls” are the Peugeot 208 (-18%), which dropped to seventh place, as well as the Peugeot 2008 (-20%) and the Volkswagen Golf, which finished in thirteenth place with -21%.

Dacia Jogger, a new hit

Here’s the registration data for the top new models, meaning those that weren’t on sale a year ago.

Plug-in hybrids are losing ground

As for plug-in hybrids, January 2023 was marked by a drop in registrations at the European level. 66,873 new registrations (-6%). In the ranking of the best-selling PHEVs, the first place, both in recent months and for the whole of 2022, is retained by the Ford Kuga, followed by the Volvo XC40 and the Lynk & Co 01.
