Mercedes: a generic model to replace the A and B class? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

It was an announcement that served thunderbolt for one of the oldest car manufacturers still in business: Mercedes Benz. The brand has announced that it wants to drastically reduce the number of models in its range elimination of almost 60%! Thus, the models that have been Mercedes outsiders until now will retreat. It is about coupe, cabriolet, station wagon, even coupe sedans! In particular, the C and E class coupe and cabriolet will be combined into a new generation of regular models. Their derivative breaks will be removed, as will the CLA. The large CLS coupe sedan as well as the sporty 4-door AMG GT are also in the hot seat. Out of 33 models todayMercedes’ long-term goal is tomorrow I will no longer have 14 models!

A Mercedes costs an average of 73,000 euros

Mercedes thus chooses to refocus on their most popular models, as well as the most profitable ones. The German brand is optimizing its range, focusing on SUVs and sedans. Of the 7 body types it currently offers, it will soon only offer 4. So another model is at risk for an unused body type: B-Class, the latest minivan from Mercedes. Like its rival from BMW, the 2 Series ActiveTourer, this model type now has confidential sales. Mercedes will kill two birds with one stone by replacing it with joint model with the future A-class. Currently The average price of a Mercedes is 73,000 euros. The figure that the firm wants to revise upward, move to the market and become more luxury builder than a premium actor.

A major cleanup is expected in the compact segment

How to make? Thanks to the promotion to the elite (and for the price) most models, but not only. Mercedes wants to apply the same formula as Audi: remove entry level models (A1 and Q2) to focus on those with higher added value. Entry level Mercedes at the moment, they are all the same seven compact models. The A-Class, its electric derivative EQA, and the A-Class sedan. The CLA and its firing derivative. But also Class B and its electric derivative EQB. Mercedes plans offer more than four models of this compact class for the following years.

With the elimination of the B-Class (and therefore the EQB) and the CLA wagon, the scenario looms large. Support the Class A equivalent (which will evolve to restore Class B customers) as well as its electrical derivative. Likewise, it would be a matter of providing a successor to the CLA (and an electric equivalent) while ending the career of the A-class sedan. Many changes in perspectiveannounced simultaneously with the group’s financial results for 2022. Let’s wait and see now when and how they will be promptly translated
