The new Honda CR-V has not yet arrived in Europe, but on the other side of the Atlantic, the Japanese SUV is already delighting its first customers with new hybrid and battery hybrid engines.

The hybrid is a new direction of Honda’s work, as well as the basis for the work of the Honda Performance Development department and the designers of the American division of the Japanese firm. The goal shown in the teaser video available below, is the creation of an 800-horsepower Honda CR-V hybrid. The official presentation of this model is scheduled for February 28.

Impressive hybrid SUV

This short video shows only part of the prototype based on the Japanese SUV. This model should be impressive, with a huge rear wing accompanied by an equally gigantic extractor, flared wheel arches, slick tires, aerodynamic elements scattered throughout the body and a significantly lowered height. The result shouldn’t be anything too similar to the CR-V we know now.

Underneath the carbon fiber body, as seen in the stills in the video, we’ll find a hybrid system (simple hybrid or PHEV, we don’t know yet), which according to Honda will have a combined output of 800 hp. This will be a “laboratory” model which should also allow the engineers of the Japanese manufacturer to design themselves on the sports models of tomorrow.

Room for the future hybrid Civic Type R?

Honda has already announced that the next generation Honda Civic Type R will be electrified. It probably won’t be 100% electric, as the brand isn’t very developed in that area yet, but this concept should give some clues about the next generation Ciciv Type R.

Of course, it probably won’t make 800 hp. a model we will soon discover, but Honda strives above all to find the right balance between sportiness, driving pleasure and electrification.

Could this moving laboratory also inspire the next-generation NSX? Most likely not, because Honda prefers to work on a 100% electric and non-hybrid model of its future supercar.
